DenialWeight Class: Heavyweight Shape: It has a plow-shaped front, very low to the ground even when inverted, and a rounded back. It's basically a box on wheels otherwise. Colour: Look up... Armour: 9mm Grade 5 Titanium. The plow has an extra coating of 3mm hardox 450 on it. Speed: 16mph Weight: 105kg, because it has tracks. Dimensions: Length = 95cm, Width = 60cm, Height = 35cm Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front, even when inverted, and 5mm elsewhere. Turning Circle: 0 Motors: Two big honking B42-500 MagMotors producing a killer 64hp! They're set at 60v, I think that's the max. Batteries: 6 NiCads. Speed Controllers: 2 VANTEC RDFR series Tracks: El Diablo Grande style tracks, so it has better traction than many, many wheels. Weapon: Denial is the weapon. He can outpush even Mr. Psycho, the over-a-ton house robot in Robot Wars. The ramming plow/wedge is built to get under clampers, and prevent wedges from slipping under the sides. Srimech: Invertible. Strengths: Can outpush LOTS of robots. Weaknesses: Um, too powerful? Tracks exposed from top (fat chance of an attack) BIO: I liked this bot a whole lot, but in its first battle, I was dismayed how badly flippers could defeat it, and I had no choice but to redesign it. Name: Macduff Shape: Box with curved-out sides and rear, and a concave front wedge. Weight: 100kg Colour: Scotland flag on top, and bronze everywhere else, except for the scoop which is near-black. Drive: 2 LEM200Ds @ 36v. Geared at 6:1. Speed: 25mph. Wheels: 4 Tornado-style ones. Batteries: 4 x 48v NiMH, capacity = 3000mAh Armour: 5mm hardox 500, but the front scoop is 8mm hardox 650. Ground Clearance: 0mm at front, 2mm everywhere else. Dimensions in CM: 75 x 75 x 20 Weaponry: The front is a tilted ramming scoop. At the rear is a spinning hardox bar going at 1000RPM, powered by a LEM130 motors @ 36v, which runs on 4 NiCads. Rather than using the weapon, Macduff rams the opponent head-on, and then turns around to ward the opponent off with the bar. Works when inverted. Srimech: Invertible. Strengths: Hard to get under, excellent traction, speed, and pushability. Good weapon and armour. Weaknesses: Exposed wheels from top. Might be flipped from sides. BIO: Another Shakespearian name takes hold. Basically just a clone of Alex Holt's Ramthrax II with a spinning bar at the rear. Macduff the 2ndShape: Double wedge in front, cut-in, and the second wedge is cut-off near the top; the flat sides have skirts, and the rear is sloped and rounded. Colour: Top is the Scotland flag; rest is silvery, except for the front skirt on set-ups 4 and 5, which is also the texture of the Scotland flag. Weight: 106-110kg depending on set-ups. Drive: 2 B42-500 Magmotors, run at 60v and are powered by NiCd cells at 36v. Sports Vulkalon treads which give Macduff a shatload of traction. Speed: 17mph Armour: 6mm hardox 750, and the front has 7mm Lexan covering. The rear has some 6mm kevlar covering attached, and the skirts at the sides are 9mm Grade 5 titanium. Ground Clearance: 0mm at front and sides, 2mm at rear. Sides are 5mm without skirts. Dimensions in CM: 100 x 65 x 25 Weaponry: There are some front spike and skirt attachements. SET-UP 1 = Nothing. Generally good against wedges and horizontal discs. SET-UP 2 = Small hardox ramming spikes, 5cm from the ground and each weighing 2kg. Good against robots with scoops and plows. SET-UP 3 = The same spikes, but bent and lowered to the ground to get under opponents easier. Best against robots that have low ground clearances. SET-UP 4 = A front skirt attached to the first front wedge. Good against horizontal crushers that try to attack the front. This flops over and becomes a wedge when inverted. SET-UP 5 = The same skirt, but with one hardox spike through it. Good against other rammers and pushers. Srimech: Invertible. Strengths: Versatile set-ups, extremely resilient against damaging weapons. Weaknesses: No really damaging weaponry. BIO: I had interchangeable weapon bots before, but they were useless so I scrapped them. This one is quite awesome because all of its set-ups don't require any mechanics and they are utilized against different weapons. Also the B42-500s from the first incarnation return. Time flew, though, and even though it came second in a tournament, the other bots just seemed to outlast it...guess. ;D Battle Record = 4 wins, 3 losses (4-3) Time of Activity = May 2007 - March 2008 Notable Achievements = Came 2nd in the Roaring Donkey Mini-Tournament

Macduff the 3rdShape: Take a look. Colour: Varying forms of blue. Just look at the CAD. Weight: 108-110kg, depending on set-ups. Speed: 15mph Armour: 3.25mm Hardox for the side and top armour, 7mm polycarbonate for the bottom. Drive: 2 LEM200s @ 60v. Power: 12 NiCad Battlepacks @ 60v (if they go at voltage) Motivation: Titanium tracks with urethane rubber for grip. Ground Clearance: All set-ups have a front GC of 0mm. The sides are 10mm and the rear is also 0mm. Turning Circle: ...guess. Yep. 0 Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 110 x 70 x 25 Weaponry: Macduff the 3rd has three set-ups, two that require linear actuators. SET-UP 1 - The Hardox spikes seen in the CAD. These weigh 2kg each and can rotate 180 degrees, thanks to being powered by the actuator. They can lift to 90 degrees from their current position in just 1.2 seconds. This makes Macduff's max weight about 108kg. Good against robots with really low ground clearances. SET-UP 2 - A front lifting wedge similar to that of Sewer Snake, not pictured. It's the same colour as the spikes and is made of 5mm Hardox, angled at 30 degrees . It weighs 6kg and gives Macduff's max weight 110kg. Good against full-body spinners with long reach. SET-UP 3 - A front static titanium scoop weighing 7kg (minus the linear actuator, that's approximately 109kg for the whole bot in total). Good against other rammers. Srimech: Invertible. Strengths: HUGE amount of power and torque, very tough, works the same way inverted. Trying to stack it against the wall is a nightmare. BIO: My best CAD at the time. ;D Took a shitload of time to get done, but it was worth it. Thanks to Martijn M Benschop for showing me how to get the CAR PAINT Plug-In working. This is the fourth generation of the vapourbot that started out as Denial. Its sides did it in, so it needed a redesign. Macduff the 4thShape: Angled box with front scoops, barbed-angle sides, and an angled rear. Colour: Varying shades of blue, has the Scotland flag painted on top. Weight: 100kg Drive: 2 LEM130 Lynch motors run on 46.2 volts and geared 9:1. Power: 14 M1 A123 Li-Ion battery packs. Motivation: 6WD; wheels are made of 2024 aluminium alloy and fitted with polyurethane tires. Speed: 15mph average, can get up to 30mph Armour: It has a 5mm steel ladder chassis, and like Killobite did it has inserts of 6mm titanium around most of the holes in the chassis, but that is inside the robot and the entire exterior is made of 5mm Hardox (even the scoops) with some 10mm 7075 aluminium alloy plating around the sides. The barbs are 5mm Hardox as well and fit through the aluminium alloy. This will be explained further in the upcoming CAD, and the weapon armour will be explained in the set-ups. Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front with all set-ups, 15mm everywhere else. Turning Circle: Zilch. Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 95 x 70 x 15 Weaponry: Macduff the 4th carries over its existing set-ups from Macduff the 3rd with a few changes, and also a new set-up. SET-UP 1 - A pair of titanium lifting forks, now barbed and diamond-tipped, powered by a lightweight linear actuator and can hoist 300kg. This makes Macduff's max weight about 97kg. Used against robots that attack with wedges, and bots that have skirts and low ground clearances. The main set-up: this is the only set-up that retains the middle scoop shown in the render. All other set-ups remove that middle scoop. SET-UP 2 - A 5mm Hardox wedge, powered by the same system. Makes Macduff's weight the full 100kg. Used against invertible FBSs. SET-UP 3 - A static scoop made of 10mm Hardox, and with strengthened supports of Hardox bolts and joint shockproofing, removing the linear actuator but making the weight the full 100kg nonetheless. Used against opponents of MDU capacity. SET-UP 4 - A small rear-hinged flipper made of 5mm Hardox, and powered by a 1.5kg CO2 tank and a 75mm x 50mm ram. Can flip over about 250kg and can right Macduff if needed, and has about 20 flips. Makes Macduff's weight about 99kg. Used if needed to tip over opponents quickly. Srimech: Invertible using all set-ups, though it can self-right using Set-up 4. Strengths: Heavily armoured, mucho powero, versatile weaponry. BIO: The sides of the last generation did it in, but I decided I also had too much power, and the tracks a tad too heavy and unmanoeuvrable. Macduff the 4th still has lots of power, but the lost power is made up for by the armour and weapon improvements. It's been nearly a year now, so this version of Macduff is being retired. On to the 5th! Macduff the 5thShape: Low box with a flat front, pointed sides (with removable skirts), and rounded rear. Colour: Varying shades of blue, with silver-ish weapon attachments and skirt hinges, and the Scotland flag on top. Weight: 100kg Drive: 2 LEM130 Lynch motors run on 49.5 volts, geared 4.5:1 for better acceleration than previously. Power: 5 packs each of 15 M1 A123 Lithium-Ion cells. Motivation: 6WD; the wheel hubs are CNC aluminium and the tires are Storm 2-esque urethane rubber. Speed: 15mph average; can get up to 30mph Armour: 7.5mm Ti/V alloy, with extra 5mm Ti/V on the angled sides and rear. Side skirts are 5mm Grade 5 titanium. Weapon armour will be explained in said section. Chassis: 5mm steel ladder Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front with all set-ups except the drum, 15mm everywhere else. Turning Circle: 0 Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): 100 x 80 x 15 Weaponry: Macduff has interchangeable weaponry. Set-ups are below: SET-UP 1 - A pair of titanium lifting forks, diamond-tipped, powered by a lightweight linear actuator and can hoist 300kg. This makes Macduff's max weight about 97kg. Used against robots that attack with wedges, and bots that have skirts and low ground clearances. The main set-up. SET-UP 2 - A 5mm Hardox wedge, powered by the same system. Makes Macduff's weight the full 100kg. Used against invertible FBSs. SET-UP 3 - A angled, convex ramming bar made of 15mm Ti/V, built to withstand tough hits. Held in place with steel mounts, bulkheads, shock-padding, etc. Used against powerful, seemingly one-hit KO spinners. Removes the linear actuator but makes the full weight 100kg anyway. SET-UP 4 - A small rear-hinged flipper made of 5mm Hardox, and powered by a 1.5kg CO2 tank and a 75mm x 50mm ram. Can flip over about 250kg and can right Macduff if needed, and has about 20 flips. Has a 5mm titanium 50cm long extension. Makes Macduff's weight about 99kg. Used if needed to tip over opponents quickly. A view of this set-up can be found here.SET-UP 5 - A hardened steel spinning drum, ala Tornado, powered by a LEM130 Lynch motor at 36 volts. This removes the extra armouring on the sides and rear to accommodate the drum. The drum has two tungsten teeth to flip opponents quickly. The drum is 30cm wide, extrudes 15cm from the front, and is used against opponents with flipping arms, forks, and other attachments. Srimech: Invertible with all set-ups, but SET-UP 4 can right Macduff. BIO: Wider wheelbase, sleeker forks, skirts instead of spikes, rounded rear, new drum set-up...Macduff the 5th may seem like a mere freshening, but it ain't. Get ready for a whole new level of pain, laddies! ;D NOTE: Now retired, letting the new Macduff take over! (render forthcoming) Macduff the 6thShape: Pretty much the same as ever; a box with a flat end and pointed sides with skirts on them. The rear is now also pointed, and it also has a skirt. Colour: The Scotland flag, of course! It's on top and bottom as ever, surrounded by many blues; the side and rear skirts are tartan! Weight: 107-110kg (changes with set-ups; can change this to 100kg for different tournaments) Drivetrain: Macduff the 6th's drive now consists of a hydrostatic system, with a 8.6hp 121.6cc Stihl MS 880 chainsaw engine driving one axial piston pump at 1500psi, and that controls the two hydrostatic motors using proportional valve gear, which in turn power 2 tank-style tracks. The benefits of such a system include a massive boost of torque, since the motors can be fitted directly to the rollers moving the tracks. Added to this is the excellent traction given by the tracks already. Case in point, Macduff will be able to turn much faster than other tracked machines, yet suffer very little control problems as a result, and has enough brute force to push nearly anything back, at nearly any speed, so you're looking at massive amounts of power here, no joke. The tracks themselves are made of linked Ti/V pieces specifically designed with an overlap over the joints to withstand blows, even from vertical crushers, and the entire tracks are helped held in place by copper springs to minimize the damage axes do. Speed: Average speed is usually around 12-15mph. Top speed is around 35mph. The hydrostatic drive keeps its control and power constant at all speeds. Armour: Macduff's body armour consists of 5mm carbon fibre with a mesh/fencing of 5mm Ti/V on top of it, which is side/rear armour, top/bottom panels which have 3.2mm Hardox 450 instead, and 7.5mm Ti/V on the front. Skirts are 10mm 7075 aluminium/zinc alloy. Chassis: 5mm stainless steel Ground Clearance: Under the ramming bar and drum it's 10mm. Behind those it's 20mm, and that's all around if you're not counting the skirts. Obviously with the skirts and forks it's 0mm. Turning Circle: ... *cough* Dimensions in CM (LxWxH): (tba) Weaponry: Macduff now only has three set-ups that are carried over. SET-UP 1: The lifting forks return as ever. In this set-up, a secondary axial piston pump is connected to the petrol engine in the drive, and then to the forks running at 3000psi via a standard hydraulic system. This allows the forks to lift about a tonne. The forks in this generation are made of 6mm Ti/V, are very serrated and bear similarities to Tazbot's wedges. Macduff weighs 107kg here. SET-UP 2: The convex ramming bar also returns. It is now 10mm Hardox 600. Takes out the pump and hydraulics but makes the full weight 110kg anyway. SET-UP 3: The drum returns as well, and it is much wider now and made of Ti/V with tool steel teeth, taking up nearly the entire width. A PERM PMG 080 motor powers this on 23.1v; it gets to a max of 2000rpm in 3 seconds and dishes out 40kJ. Makes Macduff 110kg. Srimech: Macduff can run just fine invertibly; the pressurized petrol tanks ensure the petrol engine does not stop when inverted. NOTE 1: For tournaments that don't give tracked robots weight bonuses, Macduff will take the 5mm Ti/V side and rear fencing off. NOTE 2: This may still be a bit rough, and it's not exactly original as I had a lot of help from Joey McConnell and his vapourbot Nidhogg Cubed, but it's more progress on a new Macduff than I'd ever thought possible! Pretty much 99.9% complete. ;D BIO: Behold the new Macduff! It combines unique drivetrain and armour aspects into what might finally be a decent vapourbot! XD Loads of thanks to Woody for the hydrostatic Wiki page (it really helped), and to him, Joey McConnell and Martijn Benschop for helping me understand the hydrostatic system, cheers guys!
