Battle 1 Son of Ripper 5.0 vs. Tengu VII
Son of Ripper 5.0 has come quite a way here, recently defeating Wedge Devolution in Crash & Burn Extreme. In this tournament, he has defeated: - Chaos 2 (with Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus (6)) - Rammy Mk 3 - Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus (6)
Tengu VII carved a path of destruction since his humiliating defeat at the hands of 14th seed Tempest Evil-er-oution last time. In this tournament, he has defeated: - Storm 2 (with IDSFA) - Star 69 - Cacodemon
Another battle of the oldies, but who still has the kick in them to boot the crap out of the other? We shall see!

3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!!!
We start the 2nd of our Semi-Finals off by watching SoR go flying across the arena towards the spot where Tengu is, or was, as Tengu is no longer at that spot but spinning off towards the floor flipper, now fully spun-up and ready to dish out some pain. SoR however keeps track of it with his speed advantage and makes an unavoidable charge into the front of Tengu. CRASH! Well! I guess it doesn’t matter how low your blade is if you hit the wedge directly! SoR only suffers a glancing blow at this as Tengu is sent flying up by the power of his own spinning blades, and right over SoR, who quickly reverses to where the FBS has landed and gives it a good smack with the rear hardox bar. CRASH! Hey now, what’s this? The bar actually hit one of Tengu’s blades! This really hasn’t slowed down SoR’s bar at all, and actually it’s sent the blades in motion...hmm, Tengu ain’t moving...and the other blade comes around and gets hit. CRASH! WHAM! The other blade gets it just before SoR’s bar fully connects with the anti-spinner ring, tearing a bit of rubber off of it but being negated instantly as the energy gets sent directly into the ring. Those 3 rapid blows on the blades and ring have all happened in about 1.5 seconds, by the way. Seeing this AJ quickly turns SoR around to wedge the spinner, but finds that Tengu is mobile again, and is away and out of danger, before anything further to its disadvantage can happen. SoR chases it down with the wedge again, and AJ knows his TRUE advantage now: he must strike directly into the path of Tengu’s blades, like before, so he won’t suffer a huge hit. Tengu isn’t really looking that cool right now...is it just me, or is Tengu not spinning at full capacity? Did SoR’s bar damage the blades? I do believe so – ah, wait, no, Tengu’s found its power again, as it reaches full speed, so that’s cool in itself, and it’s just in time to meet SoR’s wedge again. CRASH!!! OUCH! Definitely not what AJ wanted at all! It’s a hit on the side of the wedge, and SoR goes sailing across the arena, the hardox bashed in! SoR races back into the action, but finds his quarry away quite quickly, and reaching a dangerous speed again. However, just as quickly, he closes in on Tengu and bashes it with his wedge and that awesome LEM power before it can evade. CRASH! Hah! AJ’s lucky again! Another glancing blow and Tengu is sent flying over SoR, landing with a clatter behind him. AJ quickly turns SoR about and races in with the wedge. Tengu can’t get away fast enough, and SoR slides under Tengu almost effortlessly, the skirts failing completely, and he’s taking it to the arena wall! AAAAND...YES!!! HE’S DONE IT!!! SOR HAS JUST FLIPPED TENGU OVER THE WALL AND OUT!!! It was just over the wall, but it’s over! And Tengu is upside-down, too. What a very quick end to this one! Alex is flabbergasted, as Tengu lays on its back outside the arena, and turning away, not even righting his robot, walks from the control booth in tatters. And...what’s this? Tira has smacked the pit release, taking it off. Hey, what’s the big idea?! AJ gets the picture, and gets away before Taki can scoop him up onto the wedge. It’s now become a game of “pit the winner” for the house robots, but SoR isn’t going to be gutted that easily. Oh! HAHAHA! SoR scooped Tira onto the wedge and threw both of them down the pit! Taki and The Watcher spin around in slight confusion, as AJ advances into the tournament further, and poor Alex is now out indefinitely for this tournament.

Tempest Evil-er-oution (14) is the ring spinner from hell, having a better run so far this year. In this tournament, he has defeated: - Wheely Big Cheese (with Big Nipper) - Back to Rock II - Big Nipper
Aquarius (5): the 2nd best seed to get to the Semis. Lost to the ex-champ last time. In this tournament, he has defeated: - Flipping Mad (with Leprosy Infection) - Rogue - Leprosy Infection
Wedge vs. spinner again. Let’s see the outcome, shall we?

3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!!!
The rim of Tempest begins its upward climb to 2000rpm, and danger looms on the horizon, in the form of Aquarius! Tempest scurries backwards, but Aquarius is too quick. Quicker than Tempest’s drive speed, that is, but not quicker than that rim! CRASH!!! Surprise, surprise! Aquarius pulled off a wheelie, and got schmacked by the teeth of Tempest! It spins away, Tempest doing the same, but really there seems to be no damage done to it, so Aquarius comes back in on the attack. Tempest moves away, and barely avoids by riding diagonally up and over Aquarius’ wedge and away, as the latter barges in a bit too quickly, nearly greeting the wall with his snout. Tempest attempts a rear assault now, spinning up to speed, but Aquarius spins around...nearly off-centre, but finally lines Tempest up. Tempest goes the side, just as Aquarius starts to go forward, and – CRASH!!! A nice hit to the side there, but it’s still pretty nil, as both bots go for another ride across the floor, Aquarius actually hitting the angle grinder but no damage there. Also undamaged remains the spot where Tempest just struck him, and that’s not looking for Tempest. Frank’s eyes narrow but he keeps his game face as Tempest spins up again, coming close to Aquarius but not too close. Aquarius looks a little too jumpy, and suddenly drives forward thinking to catch Frank off-guard but nope, Frank sees it coming and easily manoeuvres Tempest away from the charge, smacking directly into the side! CRASH!!! BAM! What a hit! Loads of sparks, and Aquarius is slightly jolted this time, as Tempest launches himself away into the pit release button, opening the pit. This looks like a relief for Tony, and Aquarius drives into Tempest, hoping to stop the spinner from...spinning! Tempest however gets another dodge, just barely though, but Aquarius turns again and Tempest was a bit too eager and rode right onto the wedge! FLIP! WHOA-HO! A flying Frisbee? Frank once again sees one of his bot fly high up into the air, courtesy of Aquarius’ powerful flipping arm, and comes crashing down onto the arena floor...STILL SPINNING! The wonders of gyroscopic forces, eh? Tony isn’t letting Tempest off the...hook (hehe ;D) yet, and drives into Tempest without warning. No wheelies this time! CRASH!!! BUT STILL, THERE IS A HIT! Ha! The flipper slot of Aquarius got nailed, how about that! Tempest is sent away again, before that flipper can come into play, and Aquarius immediately chases him down again...to find Tempest gone! Slow down there, Aquarius, you’re missing things! In fact, he’s just missed something important: his opponent! CRASH!!! The same side as last time takes the hit...AND THE PANEL IS OFF!!! It doesn’t get thrown away, but simply comes off and lays there beside Aquarius, who is now horribly exposed from the side! Tempest backs off to spin up more, but Aquarius still seems to be doing fine...and what do you know, he’s gotten under Tempest! Tempest is actually spinning the rim too, on the wedge! AND... CRASH!!! HA, NO WAY!!! Aquarius tosses, and Tempest’s spinning rim hits THE ARENA RAILING! This sends Tempest flying back across the arena and right near the pit, in a huge shocker for the audience, and even more so for both Frank and Tony. Frank is the first to come back to reality and Tempest moves a significant distance from the hole of doom. Aquarius turns away from the arena wall, and Tony is still in major disbelief, thinking he had won this. Unfortunately, he hasn’t yet, and while he’s not moving, while Tempest closes in fully charged, he ain’t gonna! Aquarius drives right towards Tempest, but the ring spinner avoids the charge, as Aquarius flies by, giving Tempest another shot at a K.O. He hurriedly buries the spinning hooks into Aquarius’ backside. WHAP!!! Ooh, did I see what I thought I saw? I think I did, and you’d probably agree, as rubber litters the arena right from where Tempest just struck Aquarius’ left tire, right from behind! Say good-bye to your left hand drive, and left with only the option of moving in circles, I believe that Aquarius has had it now. The Watcher is coming over, checking things out. FLIP! HEY! Aquarius just wheeled around, slid under the ref and flipped him! Tempest...joins in! CRASH!!! ACK! That was the lifting arm, you ingrate! And it doesn’t appear to be working anymore! You know what that means...The Watcher can’t self-right now! Asterix and Obelix are now on Tempest’s case, but FLIP! Aquarius catches Asterix as he goes by and tosses him...against the wall! Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t a stacking. Asterix whips around and goes for Aquarius instead...but drives up the front wedge and FLIP! gets launched! Tempest meanwhile is dodging hammer blows (BANG!) from Obelix, and is quite eager to finish Aquarius off. He goes for Aquarius immediately, but Tony eyes Tempest approaching and despite the wheel wound manoeuvres around to face him...leaving his rear wide open for Asterix! WHAM! CRASH!!! Asterix drives Aquarius right into Tempest, who gives the lifting arm a giant blow and sends Tony’s wedge across the arena in a dizzy spell! Tempest is also launched himself and comes to rest on the floor flipper...WHICH LAUNCHES HIM! No ref, no rules! Ha ha! Tempest thankfully is invertible and goes off towards Aquarius is. Tony’s bot is still mobile, on one side that is, but it’s right on the edge of the pit, and any moment now – OOOOHHHH!!! Tempest nearly got wedged and put into the pit! An upset attempt, failed at the last second, and Tempest is going to make him pay for that! ...not really. It’s Asterix who comes in from behind! CRASH!!! Tempest is smashed and barrels into Aquarius, knocking the pair of them into the pit. Aquarius falls in with Tempest on top of him, but Asterix...ain’t moving either. Obelix, it seems, is the sole survivor of this match.

Aquarius drowns in a raging tropical storm. Tempest Evil-er-oution (14) advances to the next round!!!

Battle 3Cyclone Force 2.5 vs. Sheer Heart Attack
Cyclone Force 2.5 had to put up with a dimwit writer but made it a long way in this first run. In this tournament, he has defeated: - NSBFR-X (with Baldur Gamma) - Terrorhurtz (15) - Baldur Gamma Sheer Heart Attack has had an awesome rookie record, with 3 straight KOs and looking for more. In this tournament, he has defeated: - Quocunque Jeceris Stabit (with Aneurysm (4)) - The Deer - Aneurysm (4) Cyclone Force will use the disc, so it’s a battle of spinning weapons, but whose will cut farthest? Roboteers, stand by... Booth 1: Cyclone Force 2.5 Booth 2: Sheer Heart Attack House Robots: Double Whamlet, Double Big Mac 3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!!!Ah, both spinning weapons are up to speed very quickly, but it’s SHA’s drum that reaches speed first, whiles Cyclone Force’s disc takes just a tad longer to reach its maximum potential. Wasting no time, Cyclone Force barrels in quickly, not giving SHA enough time to get out of the way as the two spinners collide head-on! CRASH!!!!OOH! There must be some damage done there...ooh...and I think it’s been done to Cyclone Force! The disc ain’t spinning at all! And SHA’s drum is! Cyclone Force backs off, his weapon incapacitated by that massive blow, turns around, and throws his backside into SHA’s path in an attempt to stop the drum! CRASH!It works, but only with Cyclone Force taking a chassis-shaking blow in the rear, the 7mm titanium shredded a bit, but it’s also thrown Cyclone Force up into the air, and he comes down harshly. Wait! The disc is going again! Problem: it’s facing the wrong way. SHA moves in, and Cyclone Force whips around way too late. CRASH!The side takes it now, throwing Cyclone Force onto his back but not really tearing into the titanium like before. The drum spins up devilishly fast, however, and SHA tries to make a break for the side again. He’s cut off by the complete turn of Cyclone Force who’s facing him with the disc! CRASH!!!!It’s definitely not Chris’ day, the disc is noticeably damaged as a tooth is gone...but the same can be said for SHA, as one of his own is bent sideways! Both weapons spin up, Cyclone Force’s disc looking off-balance, as the bots make their way from the places they had just been launched to, and head towards each other again. This time Sheer Heart Attack makes for the sides of Cyclone Force, and – oh no! Chris – oh, wheew! Close call, I think, as Cyclone Force just turned the wrong way, but actually turned all the way around to point the disc back at SHA, who raced in without thinking. CRASH!!!!It’s Cyclone Force that takes the hit heaviest and SHA who is coming off the better of the two from that clash – the flywheel just lost another tooth, and SHA’s drum hasn’t been damaged at all! And...not only has Cyclone Force lost another tooth, he’s lost the disc again! It ain’t spinnin’, and Cyclone Force ain’t winnin’, with no disc spinnin’. So it really wasn’t a close call at all! SHA moves in for an apparent kill, but Cyclone Force is faster and backs up, turns around, and buries the backside into SHA’s drum again. CRASH!More shredding of the titanium, but Cyclone Force doesn’t jolt skyward this time, instead backing into the drum again and forcing SHA backwards. SHA turns away in an arc but Cyclone Force keeps at it, still pushing SHA by the drum...but SHA escapes! Nice little manoeuvre by Martijn there, moving in the other reverse direction and putting Cyclone Force in a bad position – right next to the drum! And it’s spinning again...Cyclone Force moves away, and goes for a rear ramming again. CRASH!Another inverting! Cyclone Force tips upwards, and another slight blow to the underside sends it tipping over, making the disc point at the drum! Speaking of the drum, it’s looking mighty reliable, and mighty spinny, and mightily slamming into the disc, right now! CRASH!!!The hit buckles Cyclone Force, not really doing any damage but it does jolt him up a bit. SHA is now under Cyclone Force, the drum stopped but completely under Cyclone Force...however, SHA can’t turn and keep him on the drum...so he buries Cyclone Force into the wall. WHAM. SHA backs off and waits...and Cyclone Force...no, he’s off the wall. Thud. Cyclone Force lands back on his wheels and is immediately greeted by the spinning drum again. CRASH!!!Another dull blow and Cyclone Force is not looking too good at this point. Not really looking too damaged, but not really looking too damaging either. SHA moves in again, under the tilted Cyclone Force, and gives him to the arena wall. WHAM. But SHA again fails at a stranding as Cyclone Force falls off the wall, and once again into the path of the drum. CRASH!!!AAAAHH!!! Oh MAN!!! The disc just came off!!! Yet another solid blow, and there it goes, falling off the front of Cyclone Force and gone for good! Chris’ chances of advancing are looking pretty slim right now, as Martijn beams and directs SHA over to the wounded Cyclone Force, who moves away quickly, proving that the ‘Force can take a lickin’ and keep on kickin’. Just for how long is anyone’s guess. SHA just can’t catch up to Cyclone Force, who turns and again uses his shredded rear to delay that drum more. CRASH!Another thud and SHA is pushed back...and that, I believe, is the end of Cyclone Force. No movement, no disc, no movement, hardly any backside, no movement, and did I mention no movement? I did, and The Watcher heeds the call and starts to give the interchangeable bot the last seconds of his stay in Crash & Burn 2! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!CEASE! Cyclone Force 2.5 gets downgraded to a light shower.Sheer Heart Attack advances to the next round!!!

Flank Attack is the faster, speeding out towards BIACS-LE in a storm of wheels, and just manages to...get the body! BIACS-LE pulled the disc inwards, or rather, pushed the chassis outwards to hide the disc! Flank Attack easily slides the pincers around the body, and begins to crush! All of a sudden, the chassis is moved back...or looking at it from Flank Attack’s view, the disc is pushed outwards! Right into Flank Attack’s plow! CRASH!!! That’ll be a hit to remember, as the plow flies right off and lands with a clatter behind Flank Attack, but BIACS-LE is going NOWHERE, as Flank Attack has a firm grip on him and is dragging him towards the pit release button, and BANG. Pit button hit, and Alex is really looking forward to an early advance, and he’s definitely getting it, as, in a very quick pitting and the fastest match of the Semis if not the fastest match in the entire tournament, Flank Attack drives right into the pit with the axlebot grasped in his pincers, and Matty curses, as he’s knocked from Crash & Burn 2 about 13.4 seconds.

3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!!!
Two more to go. We see SoR propel itself towards the quickly accelerating ring of Tempest. The robot WITH the ring moves away, eluding the flipper, but SoR turns and keeps at it. Unfortunately, Tempest isn’t able to get away in time. CRASH!!! But guess what? He’s smacked the side panel of SoR anyway! SoR is sent into a twisty twirl, not unlike the Typhoon Dance :-O, and Tempest rockets back, almost hitting the wall but landing merely inches from it. Before SoR can come to, Tempest already has the ring at full speed! It’s not a good start for the Ripper but he’s not going to continue on like that, and so box-rushes the ring spinner in wrath. Tempest is again a tad too slow. CRASH! We have deflection! The blades hit SoR’s wedge, still managing to send the all-rounder around 90 degrees, but Tempest has also flung himself overtop of SoR and across the arena! THUD. Tempest smashes down, ring operating rather slowly, and AJ sees his chance. SoR backs into him with the bar, thus taking the chance. CRASH!! Harsh, but slightly ineffective against the ring of Tempest, as the cylinder is forced back by the blow and begins to spin up again, a sight AJ had not foreseen when considering hitting with the bar! Grateful that his enemy’s devices have aided him in his battle, Tempest moves towards SoR, ring madly whirling about. SoR whips around quickly, but Tempest keeps on moving, and moving, and moving, right past him until he gets what he wants: SoR’s side! CRASH!!! Another good hit, loads of sparks, but we can’t tell if there’s damage because both bots have been spun away by the impact, SoR only slightly. Okay, now we can see...nothing. :-O No damage. SoR is one hefty bot. But so is Tempest, who’s proving so by keeping at it, and the ring is reaching dangerous levels of RPM again. SoR also keeps at it, box-rushing once more, however Tempest just avoids this by a sidestep and pummels the same side again. CRASH!!! Still zilch-o on the side-o. Of course it’s sent Tempest back again, but this time SoR largely withstands the blow altogether and chases the cylinder down! Tempest is in trouble now, his weapon is starting to spin but now isn’t as SoR catches up to him, slides under, and FLIP! Tempest goes over! Before Frank can even register this, SoR is under him again, and he takes Frank’s bot to the arena wall!!! WAIT! The angle grinder is in the way! SoR stops, and AJ looks puzzled...uh...FLIP! He decides, and SoR flips Tempest against the grinder, trying to stack him there. It doesn’t exactly work, as the grinder hits Tempest’s top armour and bounces him off and away. SoR chases him down again though, quite alert, and carries him to the wall again, but I don’t think – no, I didn’t think so. SoR went in on an angle and tossed Tempest, flicking him into the wall, and Tempest bounces off and away, and away further as Frank drives him towards a more open space, and looks relieved as the ring spins up again. AJ doesn’t like the sound of this and SoR drives in for another assault, but Tempest is away before SoR even approaches, forcing AJ to halt his robot. Tempest is now trying to circle SoR for another go at that same side, possibly to tear the entire panel off like with Aquarius. SoR has the wedge planted firmly in the rim’s way and ain’t budging. But instead of giving up, Tempest drives the other way, and catches AJ completely off-guard, and now the other side is open for business! CRASH!!! Open in more ways than one! Again, it’s not the skirt that comes flying off, the ENTIRE PANEL gets the hook, quite literally, and both panel and skirt land somewhere near the pit. Amazingly, Tempest has hardly moved from the collision, and SoR...looks to be doing about the same. In fact I don’t see any type of movement from the Ripper. And I think that’s the end of this one. Frank looks mightily pleased, and AJ is extremely dejected, as he works the controls, but they prove to be completely moot at this point. Something must have been done inside of SoR as well. Tempest spins up again, and schmacks SoR another good one, right in the exposed side! CRASH!!!! Eww. At least we know for sure that AJ isn’t going to be advancing any further in this tournament, as a LEM130 is launched across the arena. The Watcher has seen enough, but Tempest is determined to reduce his opponent to scrap metal on wheels, and gets in the ref’s way. Another spin-up, and here comes the storm! CRASH!!!! The rear panel above the immobile spinning bar gets it, and it gets loosened somewhat, but at least it’s still attached to SoR. The Watcher shunts Tempest away and begins the countdown 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! We have our third Grand Finalist! Tempest again spins up, but AJ waves at Frank, as he doesn’t want his bot destroyed anymore. Frank nods, and Tempest heels as it retreats away, spinning down. Taki-san is the first house robot to react, and immediately shoots out, bolting the pit release button, luckily not damaging it, but DBM ain’t budging. The Watcher gives himself the honours, and gives SoR a long rest in the pit. BOOM!

Son of Ripper 5.0 stormed down in hell. TEMPEST EVIL-ER-OUTION (14) ADVANCES TO THE GRAND FINAL!!!!

3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!!!
Both can attack, and both have “Attack” in their names, making them pretty dangerous. The ultimate question is who can attack more? Martijn seems to think he is the one, as SHA confidently strides outward towards the rather passive Flank Attack. Passive? Who’s passive? Flank Attack suddenly bursts forward and around SHA in a great burst of speed, and turns...to meet SHA’s drum. Martijn ain’t fooled. He’s keeping that drum pointed right at his foe. It’s a tough situation for Alex, but he’s thought of something, as Flank Attack moves backwards, allowing SHA to come near. Then Flank Attack reverses in an arc, trying to make an opening at SHA’s side. That fails, too, as Martijn turns the tracked bot around and now imitates Flank Attack and trying to run around the claws. He’s just as successful as his opponent, as the claws turn around and...SHA hits one of them with the drum, right on the teeth! CRASH!!! Um, ouch. Flank Attack is knocked over onto his back, even at that angle. SHA moves in for the wheel, but Flank Attack moves out of harm’s way and back into the middle of the arena. Hm, no damage done to the claw. Flank Attack moves in again, cautious this time as he’s none too keen on another flip, but Martijn, sensing weakness, drives SHA forwards all of a sudden, forcing Alex and Flank Attack to make a move, and Alex does: away from the drum. Shame, as SHA quickly hits the claw again with that powerful spinning drum, this time from the outside. CRASH!!! The force and positioning of that blow sends Flank Attack into the air at an odd angle, crashing down on one wheel but otherwise okay. Alex breathes a sweet, sweet sigh of relief, but it’s not going to last for long though, as Martijn is maintaining his focus, and drives his tracked bot towards Flank Attack, who despite the 22mph top speed, can’t get away quick enough, as they are too near. CRASH! Another godly flip from the drum, right on the tip of the claw, and the Tan look-a-like is toppled again! And this time, he’s facing right against the arena wall! He’s got nowhere to go, and Martijn knows it! The drum back at speed, SHA barrels right into Flank Attack’s left wheel. WHAP! ...hey! The wheel, it’s still there! Is it working? Nope. Continued aggression from the drumbot known as Sheer Heart Attack just put Flank Attack: DT right down the gutter...or so it seems. Martijn, thinking the wheel might just be loose and could be working again any second, again pushes SHA into Flank Attack, and the wheel takes another hit. In fact, it takes off completely! Yes, the left wheel of Flank Attack is now completely gone, and with one wheel left, I’d say Flank Attack’s chances of winning this battle have just left the building. The Watcher is coming over to check things out, and the crowd is screaming for the other wheel to come off. Alex sighs, knowing he should have put on those wheel guards. Too late now, as SHA heeds the audience’s call and goes for the right side wheel now. WHAP! Nope, it’s still attached. It does knock Flank Attack away from the wall, though. Flank Attack feebly starts to move away, but is smacked into by The Watcher and spun around. SHA moves in for the double wheel removal! WHAP! There it goes! No wheels, no win for you, Flank Attack. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! The count-out is done, and the fourth Grand Finalist is named! Sheer Heart Attack spins around in delight as Ancalagon comes forth, and, ironically, chomps down on the chomper, right into the plow that was repaired after last match. Martijn does the humane thing and steers SHA into the pit release button, using the back to hit it, and Ancalagon stuffs a wheel-less Flank Attack down.
