Alex Holt's entriesTengu VIIMobility: 4 small inner wheels on a simple skid steer
Colour: Green
Weight: 100kg
Shape: A short cylinder, with very slightly tapering top, tengu is not much shorter: around 60% of its previous height but around 15% larger radius.
Speed: 18mph
Turning circle: 0m
Power: 2x 750 watt Bosch wiper motors at 24v.
Armour: The armour is 4mm titanium, however, tengu has its unique anti spinner ring to give invulnerability for it against the dangers of the rest of the horizontal spinner community. grade As you can now see tengu has a setup two smaller blades per side rather than the single larger ones at the base, this is for reasons that will be explained later. Anyway, basically the result in this is that the spinner ring is mounted between the blades, therefore it goes from about 7% of the height from the ground up to about 85% height in this case, or in a normal setup from 7% to 95%, meaning it has very good coverage whichever way. With the blades above and below the rest is protected very well anyway. For the ring itself you know the drill: a ring of toughened polypropylene (a very tough industrial synthetic rubber) mounted on a metal frame mounted free on castors, this means that it spins completely independently and is not restricted in horizontal movement in any way. The effect: any hit from a horizontal spinning weapon will cause the spinner ring to spin by transferring the energy into that, which as it slows down will dissipate the energy harmlessly as heat and sound. It also means that should a robot with horizontal gripping weapon get a purchase tengu can still spin up while it is being held assuming it doesn’t crush too badly. This is all over a toughened stainless steel chassis which has triangular bars making the whole chassis appear to be made up of triangles, this design leads to extra strength against crushers. Read also skirts, as they are defensive too. The robot is very heavily shock proofed.
Ground clearance: Under new skirts 6mm, however these skirts are a lot different to usual, basically they are a ring of aluminium foam with all the gap filled in with rubber beneath the robot, there are castors set into them to keep manoeuvrability, basically they not only protect from flippers but from low discs like spin dash. It also enables a slight bit of bounce so it can go to one side slightly without leaving a clearance. Its an inch thick form the outside (as in in plan view). How this has changed for Tengu 7 is there are now two set-ups for these skirts to suit opponents. The skirts when facing flippers lifting forks or anything which needs to get under the machine to turn tengu over are at the outside, as in level with the rest of the machine. However when facing robots which get under an opponent to make an attack easier, or attack underneath, ie. SD IV type saws, wedge crushers, front hinged flippers, robots with flywheels mounted up a wedge, they are now mounted 15cm in from the outside so the robot CAN get under, this however means that they will drive straight under with little resistance but get hit by the blades up their wedge damaging them in places which were previously inaccessible.
Weapons: The robot is a full body spinner powered by a 4" magmotor at a gearing ratio of 6:1, although much wider than previous it still gives out somewhere in the region of 70-80Kj as t is much shorter, the spin up time is also still quite rapid. It hits using one of 4 sets of blades chosen depending on the opponent:
-->Two 7.5-kilo blades with go into the robot to prevent them being ripped off, each is about 15cm long. Used against most opponents except ones mentioned below. Used in melee even if only one opponent doesn't fit the required groups below.
-->Triangular wedges, they skim along the ground at low clearances of about 1.5mm, and sharply curve upwards, they can be used to turn over bots with high clearances. They are made of high grade aluminium approximately 2cm thick.
-->The dual hit weapons, basically there is a large titanium/tungsten alloy bar, which protrudes 30cm backwards from the spinning direction (ie anticlockwise), there is a large blade which is slightly curved at the end where it attacked (its the same bar so won't snap off in impact), at the far end of the bar there is a smaller blade which is more pointed and is barbed backwards. Therefore on hit the large blade will hit first, and almost instantaneously the second blade will stab in as well, causing two lots of damage, this is only to be used against robots which have long flat sides and light armour as it is primarily a weapon that looks impressive when it hits. It can also be used for removing skirts.
-->The new ones: basically they are two standard blades mounted at the top and bottom of the side of the robot, making 4 blades in total (the blades shown in the picture) Basically they are used against robots with shells too tough for the blades to pierce, but are instead designed to knock an opponent away but also deliver as much force through the smallest area possible without off balancing the machine. This basically means that it’s far more likely to do severe shock damage inside to machines which aren’t likely to be damaged properly.
Srimech: Bar srimech on top powered by linear actuators: the actuators are on the inside and the arm is aluminium boron carbide which means that its incredibly resistant to damage. The srimech actions now takes about 0.9 second. The bar is inset into the top of the machine so it is difficult to damage.
Strengths: Very good weaponry, manoeuvrable, gyroscopic force makes it very difficult to flip. Variables make it suitable for any opponent.
Weaknesses: Low traction.
Slammer V Colour: Orange
Weight: 100kg
Shape: A thin invertible axlebot, with flippers both on top and underneath to turn the robot over and also a weapon at the front which is interchangable. The four bars give structural rigidity and are hardox 3mm rim thickness tubes about 3cm in diamter with an aluminium boron carbide prism runnign down the center.
Wheels: Large axlebot style wheels with motors and gearing inside, they have 8mm aluminium boron carbide hubs over a hardox ringwith a layer of rubber on top for traction.
Motors: 2x 750 watts Bosch motors at 24v.
Speed: 14mph
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: 6mm of aluminium boron carbide over a titanium chassis.
Ground clearance: Varies on weapon, but its not too hard to get under.
Weapons: Has large flipping plates pivoted at the back of the bot, powered by strong and fast linear actuators, these enable the bot to turn itself over which makes it very manouverable and also allows it to slam opponents, each flipping plate has approximatly 300kg of lift. The weapon at the top (where the saw is on pussycat) is interchangeable depending on the opponent, the weapons are as follows, I’ve tried to make it easy to tell which weapon I will use so you don’t have to wait for me to say, although if it is not obvious I will probably post to tell, in a fight which goes several ways (3 or more) I will optimise for the most highly rated opponent :
1) Hydraulic claw - long claws which are powered by light hydraulics, capable of damaging armour of up to 3mm in materials like steel and titanium and more in softer materials. The two positions below are used against different opponents.
Set-up a) Vertical: the classic set up as shown on my profile, its used for bots with high clearance, especially invertible ones, its also used for horizontal (not full body) spinners and finally robots with external tracks
Examples of opponents:- Tornado, 101, King Buxton, Hypnodisc, Supernova, 3 Stegs 2 Heaven, 13 Black, Fluffy, Invertibrat, Suicidal Tendencies, Warhead, Wild thing (s6)
Set-up b) Horizontal, same jaws but just mounted horizontally, used against axle bots and robots with large vulnerable wheels, also robots with thinnish weapons mounted externally (bar flippers and axes)
Examples of opponents:- Dominator 2, Terrorhurtz, Bigger Brother, nightmare, X-terminator, beta, cassius 1, chaos 1, big cheese, wheely big cheese, Dantomkia, Gemini, gravedigger, Killertron, killerhurtz, wild thing (pre s6),
2) Axe blades: These blades are 20cm long each, about 7cm thick and are mounted above and below the robot turning the machine into a full body axe, at the bottom the blades return on themselves in a hook so when they pierce any armour the slightest movement will cause them to become snagged, then with a flip it can hurl the opponent across the arena, used on robots with light to medium armour on top.
Examples:- chaos 2, cassius 2, firestorm, roadblock, beast of Bodmin, spawn robots
3) Disc: two toothed flywheel made from carbon-steel and has two hardox teeth. The disc itself weights ten kilos, is 40cm in diameter and travels at 1000 rpm.
Set-up A) Mounted vertically. Used for attacking robots with nothing than can be grabbed onto or easily damaged. Also used against robots with heavy armour on top and skirts.
Examples:- Panic attack, biohazard, pussycat, razer
Set-up b) Flywheels mounted horizontally. Used against robots with exposed hydraulics, exposed legs, chain saws, circular saws mounted horizontally or anything else that would be vulnerable to a side attack.
Examples:- Any real walker except anarchy or mechadon, anything with thin armour on the sides, anything except pussycat with a circular saw. Anything with a chainsaw as a primary weapon.
4) Wedge. Wedge mounted at the front which a thick 5mm titanium plate on the front, runs both ways up and allows slammer to have a WBC like throwing motion. Used against less powerful full body spinners and robots with a ground clearance above zero, which can’t self right or have difficulty doing so
Examples of opponents: Mortis, typhoon
5) Lance: A very large spike mounted on the front, made of 5mm hardox over an aluminium frame and sharp at the end it can be used against vertical flywheels as a way to stop them by ramming from the side. It is also used against canon fodder and machines in which none of the other weapons can do anything to as its robustness means if nothing else it can be used to fend attacks.
6) Mandibles: A four way linear actuator powered claw used for gripping difficult shapes, the inside is lighned with rubber to give it grip, the claw is designed for gripping not crushing. Not a standard component meanign they are not to be used unless specified directly by me.
7) Harpoon. A tethered spring powered harpoon on a 5m chord, capable of punching through lighter armours. Especially good facing lightly armoured fbs as if it pierces the spinner will eb unable to spin up hence allowing me control the fight.
8) Nooses; A pair of wide chain looks at 45 degrees from vertical on either side of the robot forming a v shape, they are used for attackign axlebots as they cna be slipped over hweels and then tightened preventing escape from an axle bot. Again as with the mandibles these are not a standard component and not to be considered unless directly specified.
9) The shield; if something just cant be attacked with anythign else, especially powerful spinners this is the answer. Its basically a 8mm hardox plate that covers the front of the robot and weighs around 20kg. Very hard to damage but again unless against soemthin like MDU or my own AAotA tihs isnt a standard option.
Strengths: Very manoeuvrable, very adaptable, difficult to keep control of in a fight. Completely immune to lifting forks and flippers so long as it doesn’t get flipped out of the arena.
Weaknesses: Easily flipped (although it won’t effect it at all)
Salamander IIIColour: Black and yellow
Weight: 100kg
Shape: A semi axle bot, the drive being inside the wheels,
Wheels: Two large wheels, made of 7mm aluminium boron carbide, the drive is like a sides only FBS, ie only the rubber bit is driven, not the sides.
Speed: 12mph,
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: 3mm hardox
Power: Wheelchair motors
Ground clearance: 6mm: but the disc is quite low so its difficult to actaully do much, its an axle bot after all.
Weapons: A massive 22kg spinning disc made of hardox with holes drileld in to center the weight round the edge, it spins at 2000rpm and is aproximatly 80cm in diameter. It has two square hardox teeth to do the damage, the only problem being that its spin up time isnbt the fastest ever. Robot is heavily shock proofed to prevent damage fromown power.
Srimech: Invertible.
Strengths: Very strong weaponry, manouverable, difficult to get a hold of
Weaknesses: High clearance and slow spin up speed of weapon
DanteWeight: 100kg
Shape:
www.geocities.com/alex_j_holt/dte.JPGMobility: Two large but lightweight wheel, exposed, but very sturdily mounted: comprised of foam with a titanium casing over the top, under the rubber track itself is 9mm aluminium boron carbide which should keep the damage from happening where it matters. They are very difficult todamage significantly due to this toughness, the rubber is industrial polypropylene which is very tough to cut it is a high grade synthetic rubber.
Motors: 2x wheelchair motors at 36 volts.
Speed: 22mph,
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: There is no sheet armour on this machine brinign the weight right down, instead the machine is contructed from thick hardox tubing forming a tough outer shell, this is especially good against flywheels as it means that instead of tearing through armour as there is no place to gain purchase it will snag the machien and throw it rather than damaging it. All the machanics are moutned in the cnetre of the chassis so that only really long spikes or axe blades coudl reach it and they have an aluminium cover over them to prevent anything damaging them too easily such as shrapnel. The one exception to the no armour rule is the two tungsten carbide bars at the front (it does exist, I showed Dave, it is approximatly 55% tougher than hardox but has a relative density of 14.6 comapred to 7.8 of hardox, hence the minimal use of it, tis also considerably more brittle but as its that hard nothigns going to make it snap really anyway) These bars serve five purposes - firstly they act as the main defense against other high powered spinners, secondly they block any shrapnel caused by the machiens own weapon from damaging the robot, thirdly they are pivoted at the front and mounted off linear actuators so they move forward like a front hinged flipper, they go close enough to the disc to unclog it of any large thigns such as scraps of fur etc, it also acts as a srimech, but also should any robot end up ontop they can push it off. Everythign possible is shock proofed with rubber to survive impact from the machiens own disc or someone elses.
Ground clearance: Quite high all round, excpet obviously udner the wheels.
Weapons: A huge 24kg vertical flywheel made of steel, approximatly 42cm in diamter powered by a magmotor and spinning at 1000 rpm. Two hardox teeth. A very nasty weapon, the teeth are designed to try and knock opponents upwards and bludgeon them really hard rather than shred. Buckle and bash to destroy the innards.
Srimech: The tungtsen carbide bars pivot forward on actuators.
Strengths: Very tough in more or less every way.
Weaknesses: High clearance, and vulnerable to long thin spikes
Notes: Name after the Dante who wrote about Hell, not the game character as he was named after this oen anyway.
KaliWeight: 100kg
Shape: A box with a wedged front and a slightly rounded back.
Mobility: Drive on a skid steer, uses the same drive system as storm 2. Wheels are 4mm chromium with a rubber coating
Motors: 2x Lem 130s at 46volts
Speed: 25mph,
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: Front: 1cm aluminium boron carbide, sides and back 5mm aluminium boron carbide, top 14mm polycarb.
Ground clearance: 0mm at front due to slope, which is very low and can probablky get beneath almost all skirts. Round the sides its about 0.4mm
Weapons: A pnuematic powered biohzard style lifting arm which goes up and turns the opponent over without much difficulty, the machine has a big brother style spatula which should enable it to get benath more or less anything. As its not especially high pressure it can probably get around 40 flips per fight which should be ample.
Srimech: Weapon, but its invertible anyway
Strengths: Front very tough, good weapon, fast, good traction.
Weaknesses: No damaging weaponry.
ArchAngel of the AbyssColour: Silver and dark metallic purple
Weight: 150kg
Shape: a two layered full body spinner, the upper ring overlaps the lower so is only about 10cm of lower ring exposed now, meaning the upper ring can hit lower targets.
Mobility: cheeky boy walking system for stability powered by 4 x C40-500 Magmotors on 36v. 6HP each. The legs are shorter than before and further from the outside of the robot (which is wider but shorter) meaning its unlikely that a robot will be able to get in to damage the legs, the feet are also no longer blade like but instead have feet about an inch thick which are rounded like pendulems (as required for the design) and have textured rubber feet giving the robot some traction.
Speed: 12mph
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: 4mm aluminium boron carbide, the chassis is made up of triangular sections of aluminium boron carbide, the two outer rings chassis rings being 3mm hardox tubing.
Ground clearance: 40mm under skirt (which is attached to base) skirt is the same foam skirt as tengu
Weapons: a two layered full body spinner, the upper layer spins completly at 1000rpm with a practically instantanious spin up time, this defends the robot while the much more powerful lower flywheel gets up to a speed of between 1500 and 2500rpm depending on tourny rules. The lower wheel has two 5 kilo blades on each flywheel, each being 10cm long, the upper flywheel is slightly broader so that the blades will hit something before the lower as if the lower hit it would prevent it reaching speed. Accordign to Aarons power calculator the lower flywheel gives out 89Kj of pwoer at 1500rpm on the original although it is probably slightly higher this tim due to the increased diamter of the machine. The upper blades are smaller but due to the overhang reach about 2mm further than the lower, there are 4 x 2 kg blades on the upper, rounded so to knock away opponents.
Srimech: A tengu like bar is the replacement for the heavy prongs which self righted it before, powered by linear actuators and pivoted at one side. The bar is 7mm aluminium boron carbide.
Strengths: Very destructive, difficult to attack. 360 degree attacking.
Weaknesses: Not many, but large width can make it a little difficult to do precision steering with.
Slaying Mantis FColour: Silver and green
Weight: 100kg
Shape: Frnot wedged to about 65% of the lenth then it begins to slope down again until it reaches a height of 42cm. The wheels are underneath the highest ridge of the main body. The edge of the top is chamfered and has triangular spikes, these serve a dual purpose of preventing the machine from landing on its side and making a robot that it up the wedge have more difficulty getting down. The robot from above is almost a square. It is about 1m long.
Wheels: 2 large inner wheel underneath the ridge made of toughened rubber. Spikes can be added if the surface means tht it is needed.
Motors: S28-400 magmotors at 36v.
Speed: 15mph,
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: 7mm aluminium boron carbide
Ground clearance: At the fron 0mm due to a spatula, the sides are skirted with 3mm abc and 7mm polycarb, under the skirts the clearnace is 2mm.
Weapons: Razer like crushing beak: made of stainless steel with the piercing point made from hardox for maximum effect. The point of the beak is hollow to fit one of the following mechanisms:
1) There is a small gear driven cam within the beak which after piercing the opponent can de moved outwards to prevent the opponent coming off the hook. SMD can then carry the opponent to wherever it wants and drop them at will. For example dropping them down the pit or over the side of the arena.
2) There is a small device which worked off an electric drill motor inside the beak, during piercing it is retracted however once the beak has pierced an opponent it can be extended down into the other machines to a length of 40cm: at the tip there are three scalpal blades prongs: when it spins it can cut wires inside: a similar system has been entered into robot wars before however it lacked any decent menas of getting insdie its opponent. If successful it can completly maim an opponent in one attack. It MUST be retracted before grip is released other wise it will become unusauble as it would proably bed. The rod it 5mm diameter tungsten.
Srimech: The claw acts as a srimech, the spikes act as a dual purpose of making a robot on top more difficult to get down and also prevent slaying mantis from landing on its sides.
Strengths: Weapon gives total controls over opponent and where they are dropped. Fast and difficult to damage
Weaknesses: Slow srimech if flipped: around 2.5 seconds.
